Educational remedies through reading stimulation projects

Gabriela Iaurum - coordinator

1. General approach:
Reading/Writing skills as a major acquisition

Reading/Writing skills are instruments that make possible knowledge base acquisition, and other components' forming and development. The quality of children' subsequent education depends on the quality of these basic acquisitions.

2. Description

School remedial component addresses reading/writing difficulties by putting forth efficient strategies for avoiding problem escalation, tested methods in solving reading/writing deficiencies, and projects able to stimulate children's reading and writing abilities.

This component is centered on several ideas that are essential in school performances:

  • designing and valorizing the educational environment;
  • initiating projects that will help acquiring reading/writing skills;
  • elaborating didactic materials that will support thorough language learning, good reading/writing skills (eg: creating an audio library);
  • remedial intervention in the classroom, previous to pupil's submittal to a remedial program;
  • organizing remedial programs;
  • adapting the didactic process to the remedial program.

3. Technical assistance

In the next stage, attention will be paid to those projects' evolution that address the problem of increasing the teachers' interest in encouraging pupils from the primary school:

  • to focus on the written word;
  • to show gratitude and respect to knowledge;
  • to cultivate their ability to express their own opinions, thoughts, and feelings;
  • to improve their vocabulary;
  • to become familiar with various writing patterns;
  • to inform on the institutions that publish, distribute or permit access to books;
  • to share their personal experiences.

Schools will be thus assisted in their difficult task of stimulating primary school children' reading appeal and their imagination.
